Faith, what is your style of teaching?
I run workshops with JW students in news writing skills, helping them work towards the NCTJ News Writing examination. I also take them to Magistrates court to help them understand how legal proceedings need to be reported.
What is your claim to fame?
I designed the first copy handling system used by Courier newspapers in the mid '90's, basing it on the needs of the reporters, subs and editors who would be using it. More recently I turned the East Grinstead Courier from a paper with a falling circulation into a sought-after local paper with one of the largest circulation increases in Northcliffe newspapers group.
Do you have an industry story you can tell us?
While Deputy Editor of Kent & Sussex Courier and the Editor was on holiday, the computer system transmitting the pages to the press went down on the day of going to press. I had only an hour to reduce an eight edition paper to one smaller emergency edition which we could output successfully. Everything had to be done manually - with pages scattered on the floor! We did it - just!
