becoming a journalist
"I have no doubt that what I have achieved in my career is down to the thorough training I received from Paula. She knows the industry inside out and I don't think you can put a price on that sort of expertise. I consider myself lucky to have been taught by such a professional."
Michaela Banks, Editor, Crawley News

Need Financial Help?

Our Fast-track NCTJ Certificate in Journalism is accredited by the Young People's Learning Agency (YPLA) which means our students can get Professional and Career Development Loan (CDL). MANY OF OUR STUDENTS GET CDLS, WHICH MEANS THAT THEY GET 80 - 100% OF THE FEES PAID UP FRONT AND THEY DON'T HAVE TO REPAY THEM FOR ABOUT SIX MONTHS. SOMETIMES THE CDL PAYS FOR LIVING EXPENSES TOO. Ask us for details.
We also accept payment in instalments.
And some students may get a grant from the Journalism Diversity Fund.

Limited Places

We're expecting to have a few disappointed people for whom we have no place available.
Please do not leave your enrolment to the last minute. There are still places available for April and September 2010. If you apply today you'll have a great chance of securing your spot.

I have worked at The Times, The Sunday Times and The News of the World as a Sub-Editor. Anyone who wants a job in journalism should sign up with Journalist Works.

Martin Burns, Sub-Editor, News of the World.

I landed my first job at the Basingstoke Gazette before the course was even half-way through. The basics I learnt stood me in good stead for my stint at The Argus in Brighton and now at The Times Educational Supplement.

Jenny Legg, Reporter, Times Educational Supplement

Saturday Subbing Course: £875 plus VAT

This ten week course is for journalists who want to add subbing to their skills and leads to the NCTJ sub-editing exam.  The course is run on ten consecutive Saturdays from 9.30am to 5pm each day.

Thanks so much for the course. I am now working four days a week on the Reading Chronicle and the Slough Observer. I am a very busy, happy girl. Every day I sit down at my screen and think how lucky I am, I love it! The teaching was excellent, and the course set me up for a great career.

Judith Edwards, Reading Chronicle and Slough Observer
